Simone was an avid civil rights activist and her vocal style of passion, a loose vibrato, and her unusual low vocal range voice, gave her the nicknamed, 'the High Priestess of Soul'. The film will be titled, NINA and will focus around Simone’s later years, specifically her relationship with her assistant Clifton Henderson, played by David Oyelowo (' The Last King of Scotland '). Mary J Blige is taking on the role in the forthcoming film based on of the legendary singer Nina Simone.
